IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ON POLLEN DISPERSAL IN AIR AT DIFFERENT SITES IN GWALIOR (M.P.)

To find out the incidence of airborne pollengrains, air sampling was carried out with the help of Burkard air sampler in Gwalior. It was observed that the qualitative and quantitative variations in pollen grains are prevalent at different sites. These sites exhibit different vegetational pattern in terms of quality and quantity which have direct impact on pollen production and dispersal in the atmosphere. A total of 38 pollen types have been observed at both sites during the study period. The predominant taxa belong to the species of Ailanthus, Cassia, Amaranth - Chenopodiad, Asteraceae and Poaceae. Role of climatic factors viz. rainfall, temperature and humidity also play a key role in dispersal of pollen grains in the air. Such observations could be helpful in the proper diagnosis and treatment of allergic ailments.
